The PAX East 2025 demo of Elden Ring Nightreign made it obvious that my current play style won’t cut it.
Loot isn’t the only aim of motivation when diving into an RPG. I’m not the kind to pillage every chest or corner just for the sake of collecting. That “loot goblin” instinct? Well, it’s just not part of my usual gameplay DNA.
Even if I’m not naturally drawn to loot-heavy gameplay, Elden Ring Nightreign doesn’t leave me much choice. The co-op adventure takes place over a tight three-day timeline, and daylight is your only chance to act. Once night hits, it’s game over.
Well, in contrast to the leisurely exploration I enjoy in The Witcher 3, Baldur’s Gate 3, or TOTK, Nightreign keeps the pace relentlessly fast.
Nightreign basically sticks to the Elden Ring formula, requiring players to loot fallen enemies for survival essentials like consumables and upgrades.
Elden Ring Nightreign Could Be the One to Awaken Your Inner Loot Addict
I saw players in the demo frantically collecting gear, reminding me of kids diving into a shower of candy. The scene made me laugh, especially considering how stunning the world looks.
Still, you’re not supposed to stop and admire it for long, bigger threats are always coming.
For dungeon crawl enthusiasts, Nightreign hits the mark. It takes everything you love about exploring dark, enemy-filled corridors and dials it way up, as you’d expect from the Elden Ring franchise.
The combat is finely tuned, and each strike lands with satisfying weight. A standout moment in the demo? Watching the players pursue a treasure-toting skeleton which happens to be a pure entertainment.
For those who’ve dreamed of fighting creatures that look ripped from Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness, Nightreign hits Xbox, Windows, and PlayStation on May 30, 2025.
