- A mysterious new character called “Avenger” was teased by FromSoftware for Elden Ring: Nightreign, with more info promised at a future event
As part of its ongoing reveals, FromSoftware has announced that Elden Ring: Nightreign will include the legendary Set of Artorias armor from Dark Souls.
The studio is gradually lifting the curtain on the game’s systems and equipment as hype builds for its next Souls like multiplayer experience.
Since its 2011 debut, Dark Souls has maintained its status as a top-tier Souls game. A key part of its lasting appeal lies in the distinctive equipment players gather during the entire event.
The detailed lore and iconic look of these items often turn them into treasured keepsakes for players, far beyond their in-game utility. FromSoftware’s upcoming game seems ready to harness the enduring appeal of these fan favorites.
Famitsu Japan reports that FromSoftware presented new gameplay from Elden Ring: Nightreign during its Spring 2025 event in Tokyo. The footage revealed the return of the legendary Set of Artorias armor from Dark Souls: Artorias of the Abyss, the series’ sole DLC released in 2012.
The Set of Artorias was originally unlocked by conquering Artorias the Abysswalker, the main foe in the DLC. Elden Ring: Nightreign now gives fans a chance to wear this legendary armor again, revitalized with modern graphics. Better yet, it’s not the only piece of nostalgia making a comeback.

As part of the Spring Game Event, FromSoftware showcased a livestreamed boss fight with the Gaping Dragon, a creature that has become synonymous with Dark Souls due to its unsettling appearance and memorable introduction cutscene, which runs for nearly a minute.
The Famitsu Japan team, who attended FromSoftware’s event, also shared news of a new character for Elden Ring: Nightreign. Currently named “Avenger” (a direct Japanese translation), the character’s English name may differ when it’s officially released.
While no further gameplay details or abilities were revealed, fans can look forward to FromSoftware’s second event in Osaka on May 10, where more information about Nightreign’s characters and lore is expected to surface.
