If you try to adhere about my review, I feel Elden Ring happens to be one of the greatest games From Software has produced.
It builds on the foundation laid by Dark Souls and Bloodborne, expanding them into a vast open world full of both wonder and adversity.
5 Elden Ring Bosses I’m Excited to See In Nightreign
Elden Ring has quickly become home to some of my favorite bosses from the entire Soulsborne series.
The game elevated the boss battle experience with breathtaking, cinematic designs that push the difficulty to new extremes, making them some of the toughest in any Soulslike game.
5. Black Knife Assassins
The Black Knife Assassins were among the most intriguing enemies I faced during my first playthrough of Elden Ring. Their smooth, fluid movements and unpredictable attacks made them tough opponents, and it took me a while to finally overcome them.
Alecto, the Black Knife Ringleader, was particularly tough for me. For a while, I had no choice but to cheese this boss just to stand a chance. Over time, I had to really “git gud,” as Souls fans say.
Well, it would be incredible to see the Black Knife Assassins featured as a boss in Elden Ring Nightreign. If From Software combined Alecto with the other Black Knife enemies, we’d get a much more devious boss fight than just a lone assassin.
4. Grave Warden Duelist
While not particularly challenging, the Grave Warden Duelist becomes manageable once you’ve learned their moveset. Later in the game, additional duelists show up as tougher enemies in differenty and amazing locations.
The appeal of this boss fight, for me, lies in that initial one-on-one experience. It’s a straightforward, gritty battle with no cinematic buildup, just you squaring off against them.
I’d be excited to see this kind of encounter return in Nightreign, perhaps with more than one duelist or with backup to increase the challenge. A reworked moveset or a new weapon could make it a standout fight.
3. Magma Wyrm
The Magma Wyrms are among the recurring bosses in Elden Ring, with several versions appearing, including a distinct named one in a dungeon. Still, I found each fight to be fun and engaging whenever I ran into them.
Fighting the Magma Wyrms, dodging lava and a massive blade, was a blast. Still, their limited moveset left me wanting more. If they return, I’d love to see a dual Magma Wyrm fight with varied attacks—and it would be amazing if one of them could actually fly.
2. Romina, Saint of the Bud
Romina is a really intriguing boss to me, with clear parallels to Scorpioness Najka from Dark Souls 2.
All I can say on this juncture is that I simply liked Najka, but Romina’s fight goes far beyond that in terms of intensity and design. Plus, I’ve always loved the Scarlet Rot mechanic in Elden Ring, which made the battle even more enjoyable and challenging.
Romina could absolutely go toe-to-toe with a three-player team in Nightreign if she had more health and used Scarlet Rot more aggressively. And if that’s not enough, FromSoftware could always reintroduce Najka—two scorpion bosses would raise the stakes considerably.
1. Rellana, Twin Moon Knight
Anyone who’s played Dark Souls 3 knows how incredible the Pontiff Sulyvahn fight is. I hadn’t felt that level of excitement in a boss fight until I encountered Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Seeing her light up the battlefield with magic and flame from her blades was a truly breathtaking moment.
Well, I didn’t mind repeating this fight one bit, it stands above the rest of the DLC in terms of design and excitement. Bringing Rellana back for Nightreign would be a huge win, but FromSoftware should consider reworking her moveset and possibly adding a companion to keep the fight quite balanced and challenging.
Nightreign Just Shaping Up to Be Incredible
With so many incredible bosses in Elden Ring, I’d welcome the return of just about any of them. But the ones I’ve listed above are my personal favorites, the ones I’d be most excited to see reappear in future content.
Now, if we try to bring all the above given bosses back, it would just be fantastic. But it would be even better if they had new movesets to keep things unpredictable.
I’d love for FromSoftware to make sure players face these challenges in a whole new way when Nightreign arrives.
