Elden Ring Nightreign Release Date, Available Platforms, Featured Characters

Mark your calendars for May 30, 2025, when FromSoftware releases Elden Ring Nightreign on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC—bringing a fresh journey to long-time fans.

Elden Ring Nightreign trailer won me over when it comes to gameplay. The characters, the epic boss fights, and the overall map design all look incredible.

It might not be the perfectly integrated multiplayer experience I’ve always wanted from Elden Ring, but it’s definitely in the ballpark. At the very least, it looks highly enjoyable.

One significant drawback is keeping me from fully committing to Elden Ring Nightreign.

This is the reason why I haven’t hit pre-order and why I’ll likely hold off until after release. It doesn’t seem like something that’ll be fixed soon, but how it plays out in the first few weeks will be key to the game’s lasting success.

Nightreign Delivers a Strong Multiplayer Experience

The latest Elden Ring Nightreign trailer, premiered earlier today, does an excellent job of selling the game. It features several Nightfarers in action, with brief overviews of their unique skills and abilities.

Each one looks and feels unique, and I’m particularly drawn to The Duchess, her quick, stealth-based approach is a departure from my usual build but fits my preferences perfectly.

Let’s be honest as you already know how legendary FromSoftware boss fights are. Still, they deserve the spotlight. With Nightreign, we’re not only getting new encounters, but also returning foes from Dark Souls.

I’m looking forward to seeing how those iconic battles are adjusted for cooperative play and what it’s like to tackle them alongside friends.

What grabs my attention most is how replay-friendly Nightreign seems. Its blend of roguelike mechanics and battle royale-style sessions, with ever-changing loot and enemies, already sounds compelling.

The addition of random world events, revealed in the latest trailer, takes the unpredictability to another level.

One standout moment in the trailer features a meteor hurtling to the ground and splitting the earth open before a group of players.

Shortly after, another team is ambushed as an Omen boss drops from above, triggering a high-stakes fight along a narrow bridge-like area.

Cross-Platform Play Missing from Nightreign

While Nightreign is set for a simultaneous release across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, it won’t include crossplay.

That means PC players won’t be able to join up with friends on consoles, and there’s no multiplayer bridge between PlayStation and Xbox platforms either.

It’s frustrating, especially for players in my position. I’ve got friends split between PC and PS5, and without crossplay, I’m forced to choose—or buy the game twice, which I won’t. It’s a bit of a personal dilemma, but it also raises a broader concern: could this lack of cross-platform support hold Nightreign back over time?

No Crossplay in Elden Ring: Can Nightreign Make It Work?

Elden Ring didn’t rely on crossplay, yet it still found success. While crossplay wasn’t a focal point, the game’s co-op mode was a fan favourite.

Whether it was defeating challenging bosses with friends or watching Let Me Solo Them dominate the Shardbearers, players loved the multiplayer moments.

Nightreign is far more focused on co-op gameplay than Elden Ring ever was. Elden Ring has co-op, but it’s intentionally limited.

There are places where you can’t summon help, and others where it’s not necessary. Ultimately, it’s a single-player experience with only occasional multiplayer opportunities.

While I don’t believe Nightreign’s lack of crossplay will ruin it entirely, it is a bit disappointing.

The game, as an Elden Ring spinoff, has a strong foundation and will likely draw a substantial fan base early on. Still, without crossplay, it could face more significant hurdles down the line once the initial excitement starts to wear off.
