Arcane Writers Express Desire to Introduce Original Characters Into League of Legends

With its two-season haul now complete, Netflix’s Arcane has left fans anticipating spin-offs and sequels.

Praised for its breathtaking animation, rich character arcs, and intense action, the series captivated even those unfamiliar with League of Legends. However, it seems we’ll have to wait a while for the next chapter in the Arcane universe.

The show featured iconic game characters while also adding unique ones like Mel Medarda, who demonstrated remarkable powers in the closing episodes.

Though Arcane took inspiration from the game, its creators hope their original characters might eventually make their way into the game.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, Arcane writer and producer Amanda Overton shared the team’s wish for Mel Medarda to become the first original character from the show to inspire the game.

Her unique abilities make her a strong contender for League of Legends, and the writers feel she would blend effortlessly with the game’s lineup.

In the writers’ room, Overton explained, “We were all thinking, ‘We’re currently crafting something really cool and unique here hopefully, they’ll bring her into the game.’”

She added that it’s been their goal from the start to have characters from the show cross over into the game and vice versa.

There’s already buzz surrounding the possibility of Mel joining League of Legends in 2025, especially after Riot introduced Ambessa to the game.”

Overton shared that from the beginning, they envisioned Mel as a mage with a specific character arc and a unique set of powers.

She explained, “We thought it would be fascinating to give her a mirroring ability, because it means she could defeat anyone—even the strongest mage. To me, that concept is quite intriguing.”

Although Arcane fans were disappointed to see the show lose the Best Adaptation award to Fallout at The Game Awards, they were happy for Ella Purnell, who played Jinx in Arcane and Lucy in Fallout.
