Elden Ring Nightreign Trailer Highlights Changes to Limveld Map & Drops Lore Clues

Set to release at the end of May, Elden Ring Nightreign has just revealed a trailer that gives a thorough rundown of its co-op action roguelite features.

Breaking away from its predecessor’s rich RPG gameplay, Nightreign has sparked questions about the range of its map, especially since only a few areas were available during the Closed Network Test.

The story has stayed hidden, but this fresh trailer gives us hints about how its setting diverges from the Lands Between

The overview YouTube trailer from takes time to showcase Limveld, with its visuals and voice-over providing some clarity that Nightreign will feature a wide range of maps.

The audience can watch a meteor strike forming a massive crater, active volcanic craters, Scarlet Rot-infested forests, and floating blue magic globes that appear at random when entering Limveld. Additionally, enemies, locations, and loot are shuffled with each match.

Elden Ring Nightreign Trailer Unveils the Dynamic Changes of Limveld Between Matches

While the roguelite elements of Elden Ring Nightreign, including its ever-changing map, were introduced during the game’s reveal at The Game Awards 2024, the new overview trailer now paints a clearer picture of the challenges awaiting players in Limveld.

At the start of each match, noticeable changes quickly reshape Limveld, affecting vast regions of the map. The trailer showcases examples such as a cavern with flowing lava, a sprawling forest corrupted by Scarlet Rot, and strange orbs of blue magic swirling in the air.

Fresh Lore Hints Reveal More Secrets of Limveld

Set in a parallel universe to the original Elden Ring, Nightreign shares a lot of familiar traits, though the exact meaning of this link remains unclear. That said, the new overview trailer does reveal some interesting details about the fate of Limveld.

It seems that Limveld has either been abandoned by the gods or driven away by the Nightlords.

In Elden Ring, the Outer Gods are cosmic, inscrutable entities who exercised their power through vessels like the Mohg, Rykard, Marika, Elden Beast, and more.

It remains unclear whether Nightreign and Elden Ring share a common origin. Most believe that the two games diverged at a key moment, with the most likely explanation being a different outcome of the Shattering, the cataclysmic war that ravaged the Lands Between after the Elden Ring was fractured.

Although Limveld bears many similarities to the Lands Between, it’s not confirmed whether they share the same physical reality. The mysteries surrounding this will likely be revealed once Elden Ring Nightreign launches on May 30.
