Ella Purnell, who brings Jinx to life in Netflix’s Arcane, confessed that her enthusiasm for the character sometimes leads to over-the-top moments in the recording booth, resulting in both humorous and intense experiences.
With its darker tone, stunning animation, and gripping narrative, Arcane has become a standout for fans of edgy animated series.
Set within the League of Legends universe, the show is a creative effort by Riot Games and Fortiche Production.
As news broke that Arcane’s second season would be its last, Purnell defended Jinx against being labeled a villain, pointing to the character’s deeply emotional and traumatic past as a foundation for her actions.
It all happened during an an interview on Afterglow when Arcane Star Ella Purnell shared her belief that Jinx isn’t a villain, emphasizing the complexity of the character by stating that everyone has a “monster” within.
She delved into Jinx’s troubled past, shaped by Silco’s influence, and explained how her deep-seated guilt from taking the lives of both her father figures left her emotionally unmoored.
Purnell also expressed genuine pity for Jinx, noting that her compassion likely deepened her connection to the rebellious, blue-haired character and added layers to her performance.
Ella Purnell Wrecked A Sound Booth While Recording for Jinx In Arcane
On Arcane‘s Afterglow show, Reed Shannon, the voice of Ekko, asked Ella Purnell about bringing the intense Act 2 fight scenes with Vander to life.
Co-producer Christian Linke jokingly responded with, “Destruction of the vocal booths.” Purnell laughed and shared that she throws herself fully into her performance, often getting so animated that she makes karate chop motions, creates various sound effects, and sometimes even breaks equipment while recording her role as Jinx.
In addition to voicing Jinx, Ella Purnell has had a remarkable few years, starring in the post-apocalyptic drama Fallout.
She also appeared briefly as Jackie in the first season of Yellowjackets, with rumors circulating that she may return in a ghostly form in season three.
It all happened quite recently when Purnell took on the role of Rhiannon in Sweetpea, a story about a reserved admin assistant who, after enduring years of childhood bullying and the death of her father, transforms into a more vengeful, villainous character.
With Arcane Season 2 wrapped up, fans of the League of Legends universe don’t have to wait too long for more.
